On Tuesday, November 16, 7pm CT, you’re invited to A Conversation with Codi Shewan – funeral director, consultant and author who took his years of experience in the funeral profession and now uses it to encourage people to re-define legacy and use that perspective powerfully, personally, and professionally. In 2014, after two decades working in the death-care profession, Codi leapt from an executive position in corporate funeral services for a mission to redefine legacy. He's determined to enlighten people that a legacy is not something you leave but something you personify, each day of your life – and you can realize the power of your own positive influence while you're still here. That’s what Everyday Legacy: Lessons for Living With Purpose, Right Now – his book published last year – is about. Codi will lead our conversation in November to help you connect with your funeral professional peers to both find support and inspire others. “We might be physically distant from one another right now, but that doesn’t stop us from taking advantage of the incredible technology that helps us stay connected. Will it be perfect? Maybe not, but you’re connecting to people that matter, at a time when connection matters. I promise that you’ll feel a little better afterwards, because people need people and we’re all in this together.” Funeral Professional Peer Support (FPPS) successfully held its first U.S.-based meeting on Tuesday, June 22, 2021. Since then, FPPS and CANA have welcomed dozens to the monthly meetings held every Third Tuesday of the month. “I think we have started something really special and inspiring for our industry,” said FPPS Founder Michael Dixon, whose organization is dedicated to breaking down barriers around conversations about the challenges of funeral service work. “We want to change the way the funeral sector looks at mental health. We want individuals who request our help to have positive, helpful experiences so that we can retain good people in the funeral sector,” said Kim Zavrotny, FPPS Program Director and a funeral director at McComas Funeral Home in Maryland. This conversation with Codi and any peer support meeting is open to anyone in the death care profession, in any role in the funeral home, cemetery or crematory, or at any stage in their career.
