The people who help the most are not the ones with all of the answers but rather those who are comfortable with no answers.” As a noted author on grief in his own right, Doug Manning of InSight Books wrote those words almost 20 years ago. He invited funeral professionals to be the permission-givers, setting up space for the mourning to grieve in their own unique ways. But how do you learn to give that permission? That’s where The Power of Presence comes in. On Tuesday, May 24 at 4:00pm CT, the Cremation Association of North America (CANA) and Glenda Stansbury offer a workshop webinar to show you what the power of your presence can bring to families. This continuing education session will reinforce principles learned in Celebrant training or introduce new, practical techniques to put into action immediately. All the shutdowns and restrictions we’ve experienced over the past few years have added extra layers of complication to the grief process. “Our hearts ache for those families who say ‘We’ll just wait and have a service when things are back to normal,’ because we know grief does not wait for normal,” says Glenda Stansbury, Co-Founder of the InSight Institute Certified Celebrant Program. Every person we meet in funeral service is in some type of grief. Especially during these difficult times, we must become good at recognizing and responding to each person’s unique grief. Not only does it make us better at our jobs, but it inspires loyalty in the families we serve. The Power of Presence webinar brings the encounters between the funeral service professional and the family to the forefront. The virtual session on May 24 is the second part of a two-part course developed with subject matter experts at InSight Books. Registrants will be required to complete Part 1: An Introduction before they tune in to the webinar on Tuesday, May 24. Part 1 is on-demand and self-paced so that registrants can complete the two-hour program over time. The course is filled with insights from Doug Manning on the importance of listening skills and how grief impacts your interactions with families. You’ll turn your knowledge into action during the Power of Presence Part 2: Workshop on Tuesday, May 24 at 4pm CT. This hour-long, live session will show you what the power of your presence can bring to families. Each registrant will have the chance to respond to an actual grief scenario and receive feedback from Glenda Stansbury, renowned Celebrant and presenter. Bundled together, the on-demand Introduction and live, webinar Workshop are available for just $45 US. Successful completion results in the awarding of 3.0 CE hours – hours filled with Celebrant-friendly experience and CE! Registration is limited to provide time for each person to develop their response and receive coaching from Glenda, so be sure to register soon.
