PEER SUPPORT FOR ARRANGEMENT CONFERENCE CHALLENGES

WHEELING, IL—As we all know, working with families is simultaneously the best and hardest part of the job. It can be loaded with tension, and the compartmentalization needed to avoid bringing your work home with you can give rise to a host of other challenges. On February 21, Funeral Professionals Peer Support and the Cremation Association of North America invite you to participate in a discussion on arrangement conferences, both the challenges of the struggle and the joys of success.

In addition to being a licensed funeral director and certified funeral celebrant, Todd Reinholt earned his certification as a Grief Recovery Specialist to support families in unresolved grief. In the arrangement room, he’s witnessed the complicated conferences that keep funeral professionals up at night. He’s faced countless families who aren’t willing or able to share information and need help to create meaning for their loved one.

“I often hear people say, ‘you must get used to working with sad people all the time’ or ‘you must have to shut off your sensitivity to do what you do’. These ideas are the furthest from truth,” says Todd. “My work in funeral service never gets easy. I never get used to or numb to what is going on around me or with the families I serve. Being an empath does not help. I'm not able to 'shut it off' or 'think about something else'. I feel everything. I connect with every hurting family I work with; sometimes the pain is great for me.”

Join Todd for a meeting of funeral professionals’ peer support to share your own experiences—the successes and challenges—of serving families and finding meaning. If you work for a funeral home, cemetery, or crematory serving the public or supporting those who do—connect with us on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at 8pm ET / 7pm CT / 5pm PT via Zoom link goCANA.org/peersupport. Students, apprentices, and interns are welcome to join as well.
