BROOKFIELD, WI—The Funeral Service Foundation is accepting academic and professional development scholarship applications at FuneralServiceFoundation.org for more than 25 Academic Scholarships, 10 Certified Celebrant Training Scholarships, 5 scholarships to attend the NFDA Embalming & Restorative Arts Seminar, and 20 positions in the NFDA National Emerging Leaders program.. ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS The Funeral Service Foundation is accepting academic scholarship applications through April 1 at FuneralServiceFoundation.org. More than 25 scholarships, ranging from $2,500 – $5,000, are available to current students of funeral service and military veterans who meet the eligibility criteria. ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS FOR STUDENTS OF FUNERAL SERVICE Scholarships are open to full- or part-time students who are in good standing and enrolled in ABFSE- or Canadian-accredited institutions/programs. Candidates must be attending classes and actively pursuing a degree in funeral service at the time of application. Students who are enrolled but have not yet begun coursework at the time of application are not eligible to apply for scholarships. Paid directly to institutions, the scholarships offset the costs associated with tuition, fees, books and supplies. A $5,000 Journey to Serve Scholarship is available this fall to U.S. or Canadian military veterans who are 18 years of age or older at the time of application and who are currently enrolled or accepted into in an ABFSE- or Canadian-accredited funeral service institution/program. The $2,500 Hunter M. Harbeson Memorial Scholarship is also open to U.S. military veterans who are 18 years of age or older at the time of application and who are currently enrolled or accepted into in an ABFSE-accredited funeral service institution/program. Application Process Applicants are also required to provide the following support materials by the April 1 deadline: Most recent transcripts from their ABFSE- or Canadian-accredited institution/program A letter of good standing from the institution’s registrar, bursar or financial office A letter of recommendation from an instructor or program director The application for academic scholarships is due by 11:59 p.m. CT on April 1; late applications are not accepted. Those who miss the deadline will have the chance to apply again in Fall 2025. Those who have applied in the past but have not been awarded an academic scholarship from the Foundation are encouraged to re-apply. The scholarship program is supported by generous donors who share the Foundation’s vision for cultivating the next generation of resilient, adaptable and compassionate leaders through education. Gifts of all sizes enable the Foundation to make education more accessible to funeral service students and professionals. Open to all those who are verifiably affiliated with at least one funeral home and are interested in becoming a Certified Celebrant, the training will be held June 25-27 at NFDA headquarters in Brookfield, Wisconsin. The application for Certified Celebrant Training scholarships, found online at FuneralServiceFoundation.org/Scholarships, will close April 15 at 11:59 p.m. CT. All applicants will be notified of their status by early-May. Registration for the Celebrant Training program opens March 25; details are available at NFDA.org/Celebrant. NFDA EMBALMING & RESTORATIVE ARTS SEMINAR Five Funeral Service Foundation scholarships will be awarded for the NFDA Embalming & Restorative Art Seminar. Scheduled for May 7-9 at the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science, this premier seminar offers a unique opportunity to engage in live demonstrations on a donor body and interactive training using the exclusive Headzo models. Thanks to the generosity of its donors, the Funeral Service Foundation is providing five scholarships to attend the event. Valued at up to $1,450, each scholarship covers registration fees, two nights of lodging and a $500 travel stipend. Applicants must be licensed embalmers (NFDA membership not required). To learn more and apply by March 28, visit NFDA.org/EmbalmingSeminar. Applicants will be notified of their status by early-April. NATIONAL EMERGING LEADERS PROGRAM The Funeral Service Foundation is proud to sponsor the NFDA National Emerging Leaders Program. Created to attract, develop, and retain transformational leaders, this strategic early-career leadership program is designed to equip talented people with the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to excel as leaders in their funeral homes, communities, and the funeral service profession at state and national levels. This comprehensive leadership experience empowers participants to lead with vision, integrity and influence, providing them with the tools and strategies needed to inspire and guide others. Additionally, participants will benefit from mentorship opportunities and high-level networking with leaders in the funeral service profession. The National Emerging Leaders Program is open to all licensed funeral professionals in the United States and Canada – regardless of NFDA membership status – who are in the early stages of their careers (first-career funeral directors licensed for at least five years or second-career funeral directors licensed for at least three years). The application for the National Emerging Leaders Program, found online at NFDA.org/EmergingLeaders, closes April 15 at 11:59 p.m. CT. All applicants will be notified of their status by early-May.
