This month’s virtual Funeral Professionals Peer Support meeting on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at 8pm ET / 7pm CT / 5pm PT provides space to talk about burnout in funeral service and how we can tamp down the heat. Between vacation schedules and school starting—not to mention the constant stress of maintaining our high standards of care—this is a busy time of year! Add to that the struggle of hiring qualified and capable staff, and we are putting in longer days with heavier workloads. It’s no wonder that we might be feeling a touch of the burnout. What is burnout? Is burnout physical or just mental? How can we learn to look after ourselves? Bill Sampson is co-owner of Belvedere Funeral Home in Charlottetown, PE, and understands what the stress of keeping a small business running is like.
